Genesis, and Other Allegories

I have been in withdrawal from writing readmonton and greatwhitenorth since my diaspora to the west coast. After having lived in Vancouver for a few months and having put out the feelers to come to know the “vibe” out here, I still feel relatively unprepared to blog about this city’s social events. However, I am more than ready to commence a rendition of a social calendar with this blog which attempts to cover the “goings on” in Vancouver from a micro level, my purview.

While brainstorming the premise of the blog and its title, the name “ABOUT town” seemed appropriate for a blog about events that bring people together. “Turn About The Town” is a Jane Austen reference which refers to the habitual gentry woman’s past time “turning about the room” (Pride and Predjudice) and its being “very refreshing after sitting so long in one attitude”. Therefore attending and writing about the cultural and political goings on in Vancouver will too be refreshing after a long work week, or other banalities.

I have an interest in arts and culture wherever my bicycle takes me. My travels have allowed me to realize that there is ingenuity wherever you go, you just have to go off the beaten municipal bike path.
